HISTORY

WORK FORCE

A ceiling with a lot of lights hanging from it

ACP was started in 1977 by Harold Dills, a native of North Carolina. He was introduced to the industry in 1958 by his father-in-law, O.C. “Pat” Patten and entered the local sheet metal apprenticeship program, winning the award for outstanding apprentice several years. He worked in all facets of the sheet metal industry for almost twenty years before starting ACP Sheet Metal Company. It has grown from a one-man operation in a small industrial park to a company employing more than 40 people, having completed projects in five states. The office is housed in a 21,000 square foot manufacturing plant which it shares with our sister company Midwest Fabricators. The location also has more than 28,000 square feet of laydown area.

Harold was very active in the industry, serving on the SMACNA National Board of Directors as well as several committees and task forces. He also served as NEBB (National Environmental Balancing Bureau) National President. He served the local SMACNA chapter in all facets including all officer positions, apprenticeship committee, health and welfare committee and the industry fund.

In 1992 he decided to split the company into 2 separate and distinct legal entities, splitting the fabrication shop off into Midwest Fabricators, LLC (www.midwestfabricators.com). Since that time, Midwest Fabricators has become one of the largest fabricators of ductwork and ductwork accessories in the State of Oklahoma, as well as engaging in custom fabrication and specialty fabrication, including owning the patent on a dancing fire pit (www.flame-wave.com) which is fabricated at our facility. Midwest Fabricators is also the factory rep for Rossi Damper Hardware and various products from Design Polymerics.

In 2005, Nathan Dills rejoined the family business after spending nearly 10 years as an Assistant Attorney General and Assistant District Attorney. In 2010, Nathan purchased ACP Sheet Metal from his father. Following Harold’s death in 2016, Nathan and his wife, Shannon, have been the owners of ACP’s sister company, Midwest Fabricators.

Following in Harold’s footsteps, Nathan has been active both locally and nationally for SMACNA. He has served as an officer of local SMACNA and has been on numerous committees. Nathan was elected as a member of the SMACNA National Board of Directors in 2012 and elected to the Executive Committee in 2016. Nathan served as SMACNA National President in 2018-19. Currently, Nathan still serves on several national committees and task forces.
